El Palenque opened, years ago, in the same style of the traditional Argentine pulperia. A pulperia was the hub of activity in every town where people would go to drink wine, buy different products (including homemade herb blends which were said to have magic properties) and share the town’s gossip.
Magic potions aside, El Palenque is very much a pulperia with lots of people packing out the restaurant every evening to drink wine, eat traditional bar food, rustic Argentine dishes and catch up on the gossip and news of their friends. It is one of our favorite places to have a casual meal on a warm night, along with a few liters or beer, or a bottle of wine.
Speaking of, wine is still served in the historical vessel originally used by gauchos, called a penguino, a penguin shaped carafe.
