La Azul had humble beginnings as just a vineyard, selling harvested grapes sold to local winemakers. Today it is a thriving boutique winery with a reputation for great quality red wines and attention to detail. The winery continues to use old fashioned artisanal techniques, such as adding egg whites as a filter for the wines. If you visit, the winemaker himself will walk you through the facility and its processes himself.
But it's not all education at La Azul. A parrilla style (barbecue) restaurant next door is a great way to spend a few hours in this beautiful part of the Uco Valley, eating great food and drinking fantastic wines. And perhaps stealing a few grapes from the wines too.
Wine to try: The Gran Reserva Malbec-Cabernet Sauvignon blend is a superb value.
Just looking at this wine makes you think of deep murky pools with hidden secrets
This Malbec has an attractive purplish red color, and its aromas and flavors remind of red ripe fruits like plums, morello cherries and mulberries.
